Client portal for bookkeepers and accountants
In short: Yes. TypeAnApp builds an invite-only client portal for your practice: each client signs in and sees only their own documents, tasks and messages, and can send you receipts privately, while you manage every client from one page. Start from our client portal template.
- Start from the Client portal template: Clients sign in to see their own projects, files and messages.

What you can build
A private place for each client instead of receipts in email threads and statements over chat. Clients know what you need from them and when, and you have every client’s papers in one place.
What it includes
- Invite-only sign-in: you invite each client by email, and nobody else can join.
- Each client sees only their own documents, tasks and messages. This is checked on our servers for every request.
- Private uploads for receipts, invoices and statements.
- Tasks with due dates, such as "send your bank statements by the 5th", so clients know what is outstanding.
- One Clients page where you see and manage everyone.
- A public homepage for your practice with a contact form.
How it works
- Start from the Client portal template, or describe your practice and what clients need to send you on our home page.
- Change anything by chatting: "add a VAT quarter to each task", "email the client when I add a document", "add a year-end checklist".
- Press Launch to put it online at a free
<name>.typeanapp.appaddress, or connect your own domain on a paid plan.
What it costs
You can start on the free plan: one app and 25 build credits a month, enough to try it properly. Paid plans start at 19 a month (Basic), shown in dollars, pounds or euros depending on where you are. See the plans. Making the app invite-only, using your own domain and adding colleagues need a paid plan.
Frequently asked questions
Can one client see another client’s files?
No. Every request is checked on our servers, so a client only ever gets their own documents, tasks and messages, even if they change the web address.
Can I stop strangers signing up?
Yes. The portal is invite-only: you invite each client by email and nobody else can join. Invite-only apps need a paid plan.
Can clients upload receipts from their phone?
Yes. Clients can upload a photo or a file from their phone, and only they and you can see it.
Can I add colleagues?
Yes. On a paid plan you can invite people to your workspace to help run the portal.
